We're Gate People now!

4.7.25

LumberPeople

Driveways don’t need large dead trees ready to fall so we went to work. With a tractor, cleanup took less than an hour. Great firewood for days.

3.30.25

Doubled our fleet

Tractoring saves so much time! Something I thought I would never say but good golly what a true statement. We’ve become efficient at our tasks and managed to get even more than we thought.

3.25.25

Spring time chores

As the weather warms up (even if it hasn’t) we’re out there working to get the property ready for a big change this summer. Fixing fencing and clearing downed trees fill the days and make us feel good. We’re cherishing the time with friends, family and the furry pals.

3.20.25

Homebound Feelings

We got word that work isn’t gonna happen until May so there was only 1 thing on our mind, Home. March in the Midwest is incredibly unpredictable. So of course the day after we arrive the snow comes back. For being our only snow of the season it was welcomed, as long as it didn’t stay too long.

A KY Pit Stop

3.12.25

A Good Old Door Job

The angle and the Lock were all jacked up on poor Blue’s door. When we took apart the lock we lost the pins and had to rekey the lock with new pins. With the angle, we used a 30 ton jack to move the door in to place.

3.10.25

Final Alabama days

As March begins the feeling of work lingers. We’re in rock throw distance to the yard only to find out Spring is slower than usual for concerts. Weather is turning and you can feel it in the air, spring!

3.5.25

Chilly for locals but flip flop weather for us!

3.1.25

Convection Oven Down!

When it takes 45 minutes to bake biscuits, you know there’s something wrong.

2.26.25

Hopping from Lake to Lake

For some, 60 degrees is cold for us, its perfect flip flop weather. We found our flip flop weather in Alabama. We fill our days with kayaking, Disc golfing, scooter, walking and good food.

2.20.25

Cozy spot on Lake Martin

Alabama has so much to offer in the dead of winter. It’s been 60-70 degree days with a little wind here and there. Camper on property got taken out by a tree during a storm in the middle of the night. We were safe and actually had no idea anything had happened. Ignorance is bliss these days!

2.15.25

Relaxing through Feb

Filling our days with this and that.

2.14.25

Winter Activities

My Kayaking Valentine.

2.10.25

Week in the woods

Fires every night!

2.9.25

Super Bowl

Balmy evening for a fire and a little foosball game. The bus works as a great back drop for our projector for nice little movie nights and special events.

2.7.25

Alabama Hotpocket

We left the expensive coast in search for a quieter in land water experience. In search of a 70 degree winter days that allow for a little kayaking and exploration.

2.2.25

Groundhog's Day

Worked our way further south to the coast of Mississippi to see if the winter weather was any friendlier. After their 8 inches of snow that we missed by a couple days the place certainly started to warm up. Everyday it got 5 degrees warmer. We surrounded ourself with good friends and outdoor activities like kayaking and disc golf. Our last 2 camp spots had great 18 hole courses.

1.23.25

Happy Birthday to Me!

Finding ourselves enjoying the complexity of the south. One day it’s 60 degrees and sunny and the next its 9 degrees and wanting to snow. We happen to be prepared for it all and 9 degrees ain’t nothing for us. Camped out at

1.20.25

Back in the U.S. and ready for Exploration

Our first exploration with Jimny in tow. We are off to find warm places to do all the things we missed this summer working. South has warm winters for these midwesterners. Going to try the coast of Mississippi and see what they have to offer.

1.13.25

Southern France

Rented a car and cruised around the south visiting the touristy spots in the dead of winter. Quiet and chilly, just the way we like it. We had the south of France to ourselves.

1.4.25

Paris

Took a spontaneous trip to France. Spent a week exploring Paris and then jumped on a fast train to the south to meet up with friends.

12.20.24

Family

Spent our holiday season with family in California. Left Blue parked up safely in Nashville while we play.

11.20.24

Canadian Rockies

Our only snow of the West Coast portion of the tour and it did not disappoint. Edmonton to Vancouver via Jasper National Park.

11.15.24

Final month of Tour

Back to work for our final stretch of Tour. Edmonton AB was our first show back so we got to deadhead our work buses north from Nashville. Took a week and enjoyed our cruise.

11.05.24

Level ground in the Dells to come back to

2 weeks we spent chopping and burning and clearing to create a cozy place to park when we come back to WI. We’ve created a 50 amp post to plug in to as well. We used 4 loads of gravel and was helped out by local friends in the area to create a new driveway entrance and a nice wide parking pad.

Making progress. Fire helps get rid of the big ones!

Getting ready for our gravel delivery!

Starting to create our Parking Pad and driveway. Cement Pad in bottom left is a good reference.

Gravel Delivery!

11.02.24

Much needed TLC

We couldnt be more blessed with friends and family. We were able to get Blue in a shop to replace her slack adjusters in the rear. Took some heat to remove the old ones. Now she brakes like a pro.

10.30.24

Happy Halloween

10.25.24

Making a Comfy WI pad for our Blue

There’s a nice level area on the 40, we decided to clean up and make it made up for Blue. Electricity comes this weekend hopefully!

10.20.24

1 year Anniversary!

Proud 1 year owners of our first Home!

10.15.24

Wisconsin Development

We’re making a parking pad for Blue in Wisconsin! We’re creating a level entry and pad for us to comfortably park up. Not a simple task but going to be worth it for frequent visits back home!

9.10.24

Well Earned Vaca

2 month break we immediately flew down to Mexico and got under the water for some exploration. Got to dive in a 300 ft deep Cenote! Our time off is limited but we try and jam as much in to it as we can. Family, Friends, Weddings and all the bus repairs we can get!

9.1.24

Our New Addition to the family

Welcome Little Jimny to our Family! We found him south of Nashville and it was love at first sight. He’s a 1992 Suzuki Jimny 660 CC Turbo Kei car that’s Right Hand Drive. Manual with 4x4 so it makes for a perfect tow behind vehicle. We are no longer land locked when we park up.

Making the Swap

Getting back on the road for work. Same tour we started in March. We got our much needed mind reset and now on to leg #3. This leg is gonna be ACTUALLY work. Long drives coming our way. Nashville to Boston just to start us off. Then Boston to Florida. Oofda

7.4.24

4th of July Vaca

Swapped 2 buses for 1 and away we go. 2 weeks of camping, kayaking, hammocks and not setting an alarm!

6.29.24

Nashville Resources

Our friends at work gave us a chance to look under our girl. She’s mighty impressive for being over 30 years old. Learned a few things we can do to get her tuned up. Slack adjusters and engine mounts are our priority. Feeling proud of our girl.

6.27.24

Just bathing in the parking lot

2 week paid vacation for this crew after our Nashville shows! Everyone is feeling it and getting excited about our 4th of July free time.

6.17.24

Crew Flies and we Ride empty

When the crew flies to the next location we get to choose where we park up for the night. A lot of drivers in this industry park up at Truck Stops and sleep for 8 hours. Rusty and I look for RV parks with pools to relax in after our long day of driving. This has been the tour of Pooling it up!

6.12.24

Denver Broncos Style

With 2 sold out shows at the Empower Field in Denver, we had almost a weeks time in Denver to enjoy. Rusty and I were able to rent a van for a couple days and explore the surrounding area of my old stomping grounds. Rocky Mountain National Park was a big highlight! Lots of Moose!

6.2.24

3 shows in L.A.

Our only run of 3 sold out shows in a row! It felt like we stayed here for so long we could change our mailing address.

5.29.24

Getting Pretty for the Stadiums

After lounging with the family for a week we were ready to get cleaned up for the next big leg of our adventure, The start of the Stadium Shows. Big League stuff.

Smiling through May

4.25.24

Tornados on Tour

Back to work driving through tornados. We arrived in Omaha for a show a day after a tornado ripped through their community destroying everything in its path. So naturally our boss got us on board with helping clean up.

4.20.24

Black Sheep Spotted

1 month at work deserves a good break. We’ve had the pleasure of enjoying our time off with friends and family for the past couple weeks up in our home territory. We can’t help but smile and sigh coming back to our Home, Blue Steel. We found a spot to plug in hiding among the fleet for the weekend. We prepare for the next work adventure.

4.02.24

Work Entourage

Just a few of our work friends that we travel the US with. Every day all of us have to enter main Metropolitan areas and find our way to our venue to park up.

3.15.24 Lovin' Life on the road; off duty and ON DUTY

We find ways to entertain ourselves in between shifts. Our little 2 wheel E Scooters help. They go in the bellies of Wrangler and Mountaineer while we drive and we pull them out to explore the cities we land in.

3.01.24 Clocking in for the next month

Headed out on our first stent of work for the year. Swapping out our beautiful Blue for some Black and White. Introducing Wrangler and Mountaineer.

2.27.24

Road Trip Complete

Vacation to work in just over two weeks. 2,883 miles just to clock in. Blue gets a rest now while we pick up our work machines and get them ready to roll. We will be on tour from March to August with time off for adventures in between.

2.20.24

Much needed pit stop

We left Portland less than a week ago and have already been through it all. Camped in snow on the top of Deadman Pass on 84 our first night. Had to test out our Snow Socks and 4x4 capabilities. Made it to Salt Lake city on the 3rd night to celebrate seeing friends and family. We got lucky and reached out to a mechanic in SLC to see if he could help us out with our generator, with only a days notice he was thrilled to help. Parked up at his shop after visiting friends and family and he was able to get us in and repair our exhaust pipe that was seeping in to our main living area. What a relief! Now we can camp off grid and run our generator without smoking ourselves out. After the 2 hours of mechanics work we hit the road with Arches on the mind. Campground is only half open and only First Come First Serve so we took a shot and made the drive 17 miles in to the park to check out the campground. Lucked out with a perfect spot to fit Blue and we settled in to stay 2 nights and get some exploring in. Almost full moon so we got in a late night photo hike and then we were toted around in our friends 4runner on some 4x4 roads. Loved it. Now on to the last 1500 miles with just over a week to do it.

2.12.24

Home Sweet Bus

After only being parted for 2 weeks we find ourselves relieved to be home. Just enough time for us to give Blue Steel some TLC before we hit the road for another cross country adventure. This time it’s for 6 months of work in Nashville. Dusting off our retirement pants for a uniform of driving. Summer months we stay busy driving buses they hand over to us, so Blue Steel will have a nice home in the bus parking lot where we get our work buses. Whenever we park our work buses for a short break we will always have a home to go to and no longer need the arms of a hotel. We are so very excited about the upcoming months. Stay tuned for more on the road stories!

1.31.24

Quick Separate Adventures

Camp Hosting has come to an end and we are needed elsewhere. A friend called and asked if one of us could help him out and cover his West coast part of the tour just for 11 days. We haven’t worked in months and at this point can’t turn down an opportunity to meet a new band. We packed up Blue Steel and said our goodbyes to our new friends at Nehalem Bay State Park. We decided to divide and conquer so Jackie went and drove the band through California and up through the PNW while Rusty flew back to Wisconsin to help out the Parental units in purchasing a new car.

01.15.24

Ice Ice Baby

Like most of America right now, Oregon is experiencing strange cold snaps. Being from Minnesota and Wisconsin we are prepared for the cold and somewhat enjoy it in small doses. We weren’t prepared for 2 inches of ice on every surface outside. After the constant rain last week, all that water decided to freeze in 1 afternoon on Saturday. Blue Steel’s generator ran to keep up with the ice and while we were staying warm and cozy inside, we received a message saying the power went down in the whole county. 6 hours of no power and solid ice covering our world. They told us to stay indoors and that work was cancelled. Wahoo! Naturally being Midwestern we went outside and played in the ice! Walked on a sheet of ice to get to the beach. Never have we seen the ocean so still surrounded by such chaos. Trees buckled under the weight of the ice. We could hear limbs falling all around us. We woke the next day to a park in disarray.

01.07.24

Camp Hosting Lifestyle

We were made for this. Something we considered but not seriously until we got Blue. A reality we suited up for and were welcomed with open arms. People who camp in the winter are truly a unique crowd that we no longer felt like black sheep in. Feeling like a retired couple in our 30s we took to morning walks and feeding the birds. Tranquility acheived

01.02.24 New Year, New Adventures!

For January we looked for a place to call home, at least for a little while! Luckily a camp host was needed along the coast and we settled in for the month!

12.31.23

Happy New Year!

We spent the evening watching the last Sunset of the year on the Oregon Coast, A tradition I’ve been trying to keep up since 2017! It was another beautiful sunset at Turtle Rock right outside of Gold Beach. Grilled out and had a late supper while waiting for the clock to roll over Midnight.

12.25.23

Cheers for Christmas w/family

We finally made it to California where the diesel prices are absurd, over $5 a gallon! We have a 180 gallon fuel tank and at that price it would take us a whole paycheck just to fill her. No joy riding for us. We planned out to enter Cali with a full tank and when we arrived in The Bay Area we were just at 3/4s, setting ourselves up perfectly for driving north and not filling until Oregon.

12.15.23

Impromptu Parental Visit

12.5.23

Phoenix Flush and Soak

When your friend calls and tells you to join him at his timeshare that includes a lazy river and waterslides you pack up and make necessary appointments in the surrounding area.

11.23.23

Colorful Colorado

Strolled in to Colorado just in time for turkey and a little winter storm. 10 degrees outside we were able to get our "winter" game on point.

11.20.23

The Start of a New Way of Life Together

Nervous and completely excited we picked our departure date and packed her belly full of our life. We made sure to pack the necesseties so naturally the foldable Ebike and folding moped got vip parking in the bays. Before the departure we gave Blue some wonderful upgrades under the hood, we wanted her purring like a kitten. We stocked up and changed her filters, including the $88 Air filer that was roughly the size of an empty keg. She was upgraded and cleaned throughout her electrical boxes, fresh batteries for the engine and for the house. We have a 12 and 24 volt system and have about 8 batteries running our world. All powered up and on the road. When we left we had only “planned” for our first destination, Colorado. My old stomping grounds and a fine destination.

11.5.23

Maiden Voyage

Fresh out of the farm with a new fuse and a full electrical system revamp we wanted to get her out to feel the road again. Our friend was driving up to Wisconsin in a band bus for a show in Appleton and thought we could meet up, only being 1.5 hrs away. Packed up and left for our short jaunt on the Wisconsin back roads. As we arrived and hooked up to juice we learned the band bus was giving our friend hell. He wasn’t gonna make it and was wondering if we could move the band from Appleton WI to Milwaukee WI in OUR bus. Well we officially made it 1.5 hrs to Appleton why not a couple hours more with 12 old school band members of a band I’ve seen live. A Dream. We did end up finding them a more rational and professional option

10.31.23

Wrenching Halloween

Parked up in the Dells of Wisconsin we took some time to work on our new baby. Plugged in to a simple garage outlet we went to work finding the mystery to her non starting issue. Blue’s engine was in working order after Rust hardwired the transmission module to get Blue the final 5 miles to her safe haven. That was only a temporary solution though, Blue was cranking but not firing up. We had plenty of time to scour through every inch of her just to familiarize ourselves and learn more about what makes her tick. Stocked with 6 binders of information from part numbers to wire schematics to every manual for every device inside, we dove in. Power wasn't getting to the right place. There was a sneaking suspicion it was a simple solution if we could just locate where. The hunt was on!

It was looking glum after a week of searching we were still scratching our heads. When suddenly Rusty calls out from the rear with the exclamation I had been waiting for. Eureka. A small 7.5 amp fuse had blown. It was zip tied and tucked away in the rear electrical box in the engine compartment. Since we have fuses laying around, we swapped them out and she started right up.

10.15.23 Roadside Repair

For a week she rested at a wayside waiting to get repaired. Turns out the batteries were hooked up wrong by the previous shop and blew the whole 12v side of the bus.

10.13.23 First Major Issue

3 Hours into the drive the 12v side of the batteries exploded leaving her stranded on the roadside. 5 miles from the destination!

10.12.23 A Yooper Addition!

We found Blue Steel for sale in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Sitting lonely next to the sellers house, preparing for a cold snowy winter.

We made sure those plans changed!
